Volunteer

LYS exists thanks to the strength of our parent volunteer workforce who is dedicated to the idea of community-based youth soccer. Whether you are a veteran in the sport or still don’t understand that offsides rule, LYS needs your support!

First and foremost, it is worth saying we all play a critical role as parents to support the LYS organization. Beyond our parenting responsibilities, here are the volunteer positions that make the LYS organization possible:

Position Responsibilities Time Commitment
Coach- Recreational
  • Organize one to two practices per week.
  • Manage the games.
  • Complete Online Training for Concussion Education and Required Reporter Certification.
  • OPTIONAL: Coaching Education.
  • Flexible to what time you can afford to give.
  • Concussion Education and Required Reporter Certification should not take more than a couple of hours to complete.
  • OYSA pre-season coaches training sessions typically run for 90 minutes.
  • US Youth Soccer online Grass Roots training class takes around 4 hours to complete.
Coach- Select Team
  • Development Teams (U8-U10) practice once per week. Competitive teams (U11+) practice twice per week.
  • Complete Online Training for Concussion Education and Required Reporter Certification.
  • Complete your US Youth Soccer Grass Roots Training Module.
  • LYS Coaching Education.
  • Expect to spend time planning out your practice sessions and thinking through game strategies and formations. You will be competing against paid coaches with national certifications. LYS can support your efforts through our Coaching Mentors, but you should not take on Select Coaching responsibilities unless you can dedicate preparation time for practices and games.
  • Concussion Education and Required Reporter Certification should not take more than a couple of hours to complete.
  • US Youth Soccer online Grass Roots training class takes around 4 hours to complete.
  • LYS Coaches Training is a four-hour class.
Team Manager- Recreational
  • Snack Schedule
  • End of Season Team Parties
  • Minimal time commitment required but this provides a huge help to our volunteer coaches.
Team Manager- Select Team
  • Work with LYS Registrar to ensure all paperwork and player documentation has been completed.
  • Coordinate registration work for any tournaments or futsal league the team decides to enter.
  • Ensure all families are aware of Spring Season expectations…
    • For Development Teams (U8-U10), this includes Spring Season Registration Deadlines
    • For Competitive Teams (U11+), this includes Spring Season opt-out deadlines
  • Maintain team binder that contains all player paperwork and emergency contact information. The team binder should be at the field all games.
  • End of Season Team Parties
  • There will be a decent amount of work to get up to speed and get things organized. That said, you will have the support of the LYS Registrar which is a paid position at LYS.
  • Once all paperwork is turned in and everything is organized, the Team Manager position should not require much time.
